Why is this music available here for free? In 2006 I released an album called when junk has a heart. The process of writing that album left many false starts, interesting sounds and beats, and otherwise incomplete works on my hard drive. To close the year end, and launch 2007, I decided to release the "best" of this material in order to give myself some closure. Track titles below are links to high-quality mp3 files. Windows users can easily right-click, then select "save target as" to download the file to their computers. Otherwise, clicking the links will likely stream the mp3 file into your media player. These songs are for personal listening (preferably loudly in headphones or on quality audio equipment). Parties interested in licensing music should email Fevertech. SPECIAL NOTE: Please arrange these tracks in this precise order for "album" listening, or to burn to CD. In some cases, tracks blend or segue into one another with audio elements which will be lost by not listening in order. |

1985 3:36
An homage to the 1980s. Fever on vocals. Written as 2006 became 2007, specifically for this digital release. I wake up with these in my head, full on - I just got lucky and had time to get this one down. (Or unlucky, if you hate it.) |

Slow Burn 3:49
Featuring vocals by Mike Meengs. Been sitting on my hard drive for over two years. A song doodle, basically. |

Give 2 Fever
Pleasure 1:05 A barely evolved sketch of an idea, also featuring some vocoded vox by Mike Meengs. This vocal was on my hard drive since my 2002 album, emortality. |

Fool Ain't
Nothin' Changed 3:22 In early 2005, it was expected that this would be the opening track on "when junk has a heart," but it never really took off in my mind. At a time when the Fevertech sound was evolving out of sample-driven hooks and more toward original synthesis, this track was intended to be some sort of "statement." I've always had issues with the concept of labeling breaks as old, new, nu, etc. Fool, ain't nothin' changed! |

Bomb Tracks 1:22
Another short sound sketch... interesting as it was written on a laptop from within headphones, during a family gathering. |

Bass, It's a Killer
1:25 Always liked the "Austin Powers" melody line in this one. Reminds me of the 60s sitcoms I watched in the 70s as reruns, but they were new to me. |

Are You Feelin'
All Right? 2:22 This track is 2 minutes and 22 seconds long, in terms of audio file length. That alone is fairly interesting. Otherwise, either I'm speaking to you in this one, or I'm not. And if I am, you'll know it. |

Dark in the Morning
1:17 A short homage to my dead dog. "Onyx" was a fairly massive Great Dane that used to sit in with us during broadcasts of the Midnight Frenzy radio show. When my son was due in early 2004, we had to let Onyx go, because she was too big and dangerous for a baby. A good trainer accepted her as his own family pet. Onyx tried to kill his wife, then put 30 stitches in another trainer's arms. Needless to say, they had to put Onyx down. We'll always remember her fondly in spite of her losing her mind. The bass rhythm in this track is Onyx's bark sampled. |

Because Art 1:39
This is short, but I like the way it stands: the spoken word section is sampled from the Hermosa Sessions with Precious Wreckage. Darick is speaking about his understanding of blending artistic endeavors with the online experience, through phenomena like MySpace and the "community" aspect of posting images and comments. |

One Three 5 1:02
A neat breaking hook with brass stabs - this one just never offered enough to inspire a full track. A little too dated for the post-2000 vibe, perhaps. Title refers to beats per minute. |
|

Let Me Get Specific
1:21 Back in the old days on mp3.com, a reviewer once gave me a nod for in-tempo filter sweeps. From that point forward I liked referring to in-tempo filter sweeps. Do you like in-tempo filter sweeps? Honestly, the production platform makes it pretty easy. |

Humans Do Not
Compute 1:29 Why this never urged me to a full-length track is beyond me. I originally wanted a full vocal on this, but after seeing the project sit idle for over a year, I figured I'd just get the message out. |

Insane 180 Degrees
1:25 I just like the way it sounds. |

Keep 'em Stressin'
4:21 Originally a Midnight Frenzy staple track, I don't know what genre to call this, what it's for, or how it can possibly benefit society. Brass and funk guitars over a clanging rhythm? You know I'm legit. |
|
| 16
Never Been Told
No 3:44 Following the theme of "Keep 'em Stressin'," this was another pseudo-ego big breaks style track from the days of the Midnight Frenzy radio show. May be some suspect samples in this one - wink, wink. |

Leave It 4:27
Taken from just a germ of a musical idea that had been abandoned when writing "when junk has a heart," this full-length track features spoken word samples from Darick Chamberlin to fill out the track and give it a message. "One of these days... we don't have time... leave it!" It's part of the theme of this album. I like the synthesized guitar work and the buzzing bassline that pans slightly left just to mess with you when you're in headphones. |
|
| 18
Last Voice Over
1:55 Who cares what this is about. |
|

Sedated 4:52
Bodily injuries and illness sometimes provide weird side effects. I like to write music when I'm medicated for pain. I also like to sample friends into bizarre stuttering sound sketches and pan it really wide with varied pitch, left and right. The synthesized sitarish sound becomes a meltdown solo at the end, and this lead is carried into the final track as well: Scorcher. Just because I really, really, really, really, really liked it that day. |
|
| 20
Scorcher 5:03 This is the single best song ever written in the history of mankind. It's better than anything on any album ever heard. It's better than anything else that will ever be written. It's a real scorcher. Really neat lead in this one... well, I mean if you have my ears, my brain, etc. |
